How to become part of the fabric.
Off The Traxx runs on volunteers. Not because we can't afford staff, but because shared ownership is the point. The people who build this place love this place — and that love is what you feel when you walk in.
Every role has training, a coordinator, and a real onramp. You don't need experience to start. You need to want to.
At Public Events
Welcome Crew — The first warm face a newcomer sees. Greeters at munches, wet munches, and public dinners. If you're good at making strangers feel less like strangers, this is your role.
Hosts — Run a munch, organize a lunch, choose the bar for the next wet munch. The connective tissue of our public life.
At Private Events
Dungeon Monitors (DMs) — Trained safety stewards at play events. The vests in the room. Final word on safety calls. Vetted member for at least 6 months, completed DM training and certification, sponsored by a current DM.
Setup & Breakdown Crew — Turn an empty room into our space, then turn it back. The unsung heroes. An hour before, an hour after, and the night runs.
Hospitality Team — Cook private dinners, prepare formal teas, set tables, plate dishes, pour wine. If you love feeding people, we love you.
Event Hosts — Run a themed play night, plan a tea, organize game night. Vision, taste, follow-through. The signature events of our calendar come from these volunteers.
Behind the Scenes
Educators — Teach a class on something you know well, online or in person. We'll help you build the curriculum if it's your first time teaching.
Forum Moderators — Keep online conversation generative, kind, and safe. Light touch, sharp judgment.
Newcomer Mentors — Get paired with someone new. Answer their questions. Show up to a munch with them their first time. For vetted members who've been around a while — one of the most meaningful roles we have.
Web Team — Build, maintain, and improve the online side. Tech skills welcome but not required for every task.
Cleaning Crew — Deep cleans between events. Thankless, essential, and quietly noticed by everyone in the community.
How To Start
Post in the volunteer thread on the forum (members) or talk to any organizer at a munch (anyone). Tell us what you'd like to try. We'll match you to a coordinator and a first shift.
Time commitment ranges from "an hour before an event" to "a regular shift." You choose. We'll never overload you, and you can always step back.
Most roles open up once you're a vetted member — if you're not in yet, start there.
