A few habits that keep OTT private on the phone, laptop and inbox you use to reach us. Use whatever fits your situation.

How We Protect Your Identity covers what the site does with your information. This page covers the other half: your own devices. If someone else might pick up your phone or sit down at your computer, these are the steps that matter.

Use a private window

A private window doesn't keep a history of the pages you visit, and it forgets your login as soon as you close it. On a device that isn't only yours, it's the simplest step you can take.

  • Chrome or Edge: Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on a Mac). On a phone, open the menu and choose New Incognito tab (Chrome) or New InPrivate tab (Edge).
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on a Mac).
  • Safari: Cmd+Shift+N on a Mac. On an iPhone or iPad, tap the tabs button, then Private.

A private window hides your visit from the next person to use the device. It does not hide it from your internet provider, a work or school network, or software installed on the device.

Leave "Remember Me" unticked on shared devices

"Remember Me" keeps you signed in for weeks, even after you close the browser. That's handy on a phone only you use. Anywhere else, the next person to open the site lands in your account. On a shared, borrowed or work device, leave it unticked, and use Log out when you're done.

If you ticked it on a device you can't get back to, contact a vetter and we'll help you sort it out.

Know what Quick Exit does

The red Quick Exit button sits in the bottom-left corner of every page, error pages included. On a keyboard, pressing Esc twice does the same thing. It:

  • blanks the page at once and sends you to a neutral site;
  • signs you out, including any "Remember Me" sign-in on that browser (this part needs a working connection, so on a shared device Log out is still the sure way);
  • replaces the page you were on in your history, so Back doesn't return to it.

It can't erase the earlier OTT pages you visited before it. Only you can do that (next section).

Clear OTT from your history

Address-bar suggestions come from your history, so a single letter can bring us back up. To remove just OTT:

  • Chrome or Edge: press Ctrl+H (Cmd+Y in Chrome on a Mac), search for ott-dungeon, select the entries and delete them. On a phone: menu, History, search, delete.
  • Firefox: press Ctrl+Shift+H, search for ott-dungeon, right-click an entry and choose Forget About This Site. That also removes OTT's cookies and any password Firefox saved for us.
  • Safari on a Mac: History menu, Show All History, search, select, press Delete.
  • Safari on an iPhone or iPad: tap the bookmarks button, open the clock tab, search for ott, and swipe left on each entry.

Check a few other places too: bookmarks, a shortcut on your home screen, and a password your browser offered to save. A saved password fills itself in for anyone who opens the login page.

Email: filters and lock-screen previews

On a lock screen, the sender and subject of a message are often enough to say where you've been.

  • Hide previews. iPhone: Settings, Notifications, Show Previews, then When Unlocked or Never. Android: under Notifications, look for lock screen or hide sensitive content. The wording varies by phone.
  • Filter our mail out of your inbox. Make a rule for mail from ott-dungeon.com that skips the inbox and files it in a folder with a dull name. In Gmail, use the search options to create a filter (Skip the Inbox and Apply the label). In Outlook, use Rules.
  • Use a separate address. An email account just for OTT is the cleanest option. You can change the address on your account under My Profile.

The same goes for the apps you follow us on. Discord, Telegram and FetLife can all show message previews on a lock screen.

What our emails look like

  • They come from an address ending in @ott-dungeon.com.
  • Subject lines are plain, and most end with "Off The Traxx": Your application to Off The Traxx, Update on your application to Off The Traxx, We received your report — Off The Traxx.
  • We'll never ask you to reply with your password, or to email us a photo of your ID. If you chose to verify your ID online, that link goes to our verification partner, and you can always request a fresh one from your status page instead of trusting an email.

If a message asks for your password or ID and claims to be from us, it isn't. Please tell us about it.

Nothing here is required. If you'd like help with any of it, or you think someone has been in your account, contact any vetter or report a concern. We'll help you lock things down.
